PROMOTE SOCIALIZATION ON VILLAGE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION IN VIETNAM

Abtract: Based on shortcomings in environment management in craft villages nationwide which have recently been observed in previous studies, this paper provides recommendations on promoting socialization program on environment protection in craft villages in Vietnam. The five major solutions discussed include: (1) building legal framework for socialization program; (2) building and implementing regulations, rules, and commitments among villagers on environment protection; (3) creating participatory events on environment protection; (4) building and implementing models for socialization by each craft village; (5) building and completing mechanisms for social contribution in terms of resources for environment protection. This paper also provides recommendations for the implementation of socialization on village environment protection in Vietnam.

SOLUTIONS TO SUSTAINABLE HUNGER ERADICATION AND POVERTY REDUCTION FOR MINORITY ETHNIC PEOPLE IN WESTERN AREA OF NGHE AN PROVINCE

Abtract: Hunger eradication and poverty reduction program has been successfully implemented in Vietnam, which has been an impression to international community, with the reduction from 58,1% of the population with poor income in 1993 (ranks the first poorest country in the world) to 14,5% in 2008. However, in recent years, due to effects of economic crisis, continuous natural disasters, and expanding epidemics... poverty reduction rate has been slowly down, unsustainable together with the growing income gap and increasing poverty rate among areas (rural area, urban area, mountainous area and delta area), and among ethnic groups. Western area of Nghe An province is a large area with great potentials for economic development. However, presently, this is a poor area which occupies the largest poverty proportion of the province. This paper discusses difficulties, situation and provides recommendations for hunger eradication and poverty reduction for minority ethnic groups in western Nghe An in the coming time.

POPULATION MOVEMENT AND RESETTLEMENT: EXPERIENCE OF SOME ASIAN NATIONS AND IMPLICATIONS FOR VIETNAM

Abtract: This paper provides findings of the research on “Population and Mobilization in sustainable development of Highland area” (Code X14/TN3), implemented under the framework of “Science and Technology for sustainable socio-economic development of Highland area” Program (Highland Program No. 3). The paper discusses scientific evidences from lessons of Korea, Malaysia and China on population movement and resettlement policy making and implementing with regard to sustainable development. Implications for Vietnam have been provided in order to recommend the best solutions to important issues regarding environment, land, ethnic, religion, culture and so on, which are based on fundamental principles on human rights and social consensus.
 
REVIEWS OF TOURISTS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF ECOTOURISM IN TRA SU FOREST, TINH BIEN DISTRICT, AN GIANG PROVINCE

Abtract: Ecotourism is a kind of tourism that has been attracting more domestic and foreign tourists. One of the places to develop ecotourism, which has recently been well known by visitors, is Tra Su forest ecotourism zone in Van Giao, Tinh Bien district, An Giang province. In this article, the author focuses on analyzing reviews of the visitors on the development of ecotourism in Tra Su forest. Therefore, this paper provides recommendations to promote ecotourism development in Tra Su area in sustainable orientation so as to ensure the harmony of economic, social and environmental benefits.

PRESENTLY RAISING ISSUES IN AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT OF THE “MA” ETHNIC GROUP IN LAM DONG PROVINCE
(The case of “Ma” people in Dinh Trang Thuong ward, Di Linh District)

Abtract: Up to 31/12/2012, there had been 31.869 “Ma” ethnic people in Lam Dong province, concentrated in Bao Lam district and sparsely distributed among Bao Loc, Lam Ha, Di Linh, Da Huoai, Da Teh and Can Tien districts. Together with other traditional local ethic groups including The Cham, Co ho, Mnong, and Rag lay people, the Ma people are the owner of Sa Huynh culture. However, since 1975, together with various historical changes, immigration from other regions has brought about critical changes in economic – cultural structure of the “Ma” people, which contains raising issues for scientific researches and discussion. This paper contributes to the discussion on challenges, obstacles, advantages; and implications to agriculture development of the “Ma” people in Lam Dong.

EFFECTS OF LAND POLICY TO AGRICULTURE OF VIETNAM DURING 30 YEARS OF INNOVATION AND SERVERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

Abtract: Land policy for agriculture sector plays a key role in economic development of every nation, especially in a developing country like Vietnam. It is meaningful to consider and evaluate the effects of land policy in order to promote sustainable agriculture development. Therefore, this paper provides thorough discussions on: (i) Overview of agriculture land use during the recent 30 years; (ii) Analysis of positive and negative effects of land policy to agriculture development of Vietnam; (iii) Recommendations to land policy aiming at contribution to the restructuration in agriculture.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND THE EXPLOITATION OF MINERAL RESOURCES IN VIETNAM

Abtract: Reasonable exploitation, economical and sustainable use of mineral resources is an important priority in the national sustainable development program, which comprises of various activities related to reasonable exploitation and effective use of mineral resources. Among those, economical use of mineral resources plays a key role. There are over 1000 mines being exploited in Vietnam. Due to poor management, the unplanned and low technology based exploitation of mineral resources has brought about the loss of mineral resources, deforestation, soil erosion, sedimentation and pollution in rivers, streams and coastal areas. For the purpose of making good, economical, and sustainable use of mineral resources to server the industrialization and modernization of the country, it is necessary for Vietnam to apply comprehensive economic, legal, and educative solutions to bring about critical changes in people’s awareness and collaboration in mineral resource protection in Vietnam.

APPLICATION OF ArcGIS METHOD TO CACULATE FOREST FLUCTUATION AND SOLUTIONS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF FOREST IN LAI CHAU

Abtract: Lai Chau is a mountainous province who locates in the North West of Vietnam. In the past, the local was covered by a large area of forest; however, up to now, there has been a reduction of more than half in the amount of forest coverage in Lai Chau. Researches on regenerating and developing forest in Lai Chau not only contribute to natural protection, but also provide livelihood and environment protection. This paper presents the method to use Arcgis software to analyze forest fluctuation in Lai Chau, which would recommend solutions to improve the quality of forest in Lai Chau. The paper includes 4 parts: (i) Overview of natural, economic, and social characteristics of Lai Chau; (ii) Analysis of current status of forest situation in Lai Chau; (iii) Usage of Arcgis method to calculate forest fluctuation; (iv) Conclusion and solutions.
