Abtract: Considered one of five countries most affected by climate change, Vietnam is in need of building its cities and rural areas adaptive to the changes. Can Tho, the center of Mekong river Delta, is seeking the model of eco-city to cope with sea level rise, with a view to develop a comprehensive, balanced and sustainable city space. Many cities around the world with similar natural conditions and geographical location, cultural diversity and biological diversity, such as Rotterdam, Singapore, and Puerto Princesa, have succeeded in developing towards eco-city, and thus can set examples for the development of Can Tho. The model of eco-city is expected to minimize negative impacts of climate change and turn threats of flooding from rivers and canals into opportunities for socio-economic and ecological development in the urban center of Mekong Delta.
