2. Functions and tasks:

• Investigate and evaluate hydrogeological conditions of regions in the territory of Vietnam and surrounding areas.
• Research, evaluate hydrogeology and environment (underground water quality, assess and forecast the possibility of contamination, salinization of aquifers, water balance, etc.)
• Assessment of impacts on water environment of development projects.
• Assessment of natural and environmental conditions, serving socio-economic development.
• Research and evaluate issues related to the environment and climate change.
• Transfer of advanced technology to exploit underground water with high efficiency.
• Undergraduate and graduate training in Environmental and Resource Geograph

3. Research capacity and equipment:

      The Division of Groundwater Water Resources has extensive experience in investigating and assessing groundwater sources for socio-economic development, assessing groundwater pollution and depletion, and assessing the effects of climate change, saline intrusion and sea level rise to groundwater resources. The Department is equipped with research equipment such as: Rapid water quality meter, GPS, underground water level measuring device, etc

4. Postgraduate training

In the past time, the staff of the Groundwater Resources Department have had many years of experience in the field of undergraduate and postgraduate training at many training institutions; has been leading or participating in mentoring 04 PhDs and more than 10 Masters majoring in Geography of Natural Resources and Environment.

5. Achievements

The Department of Groundwater Resources has led many national-level projects, published many international articles, more specifically:

• Led and participated in the implementation of 11 national-level projects; led 01 international cooperation project and many ministerial and VAST level projects;
• Published 04 scientific articles in international journals on the list of SCI; 08 articles in journals on SCI-E list; over 10 papers in international conferences and many articles in national specialized scientific journals, national conferences.
